DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

Vision: Inculcates the skills of computing, critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving so as to apply these attributes in both professional and real life

Mission: Facilitates the learners to become competent users of mathematics and mathematical applications that lead them to be lifelong learners and productive members of the society

OBJECTIVES
To have a genuine comprehension of Mathematics as a logical basis for scientific thinking.
To study abstract mental concepts and interpret them in their applications in the real world of physical systems.
To apply mathematical concepts in the development of algorithm and syntax using FOSS (Free open software source) and Python in particular.

Our 50-hour course - Basic Mathematics for Competitive Exams offered to students of all the streams prepares students for competitive exams and enhances mathematical problem-solving skills.
A degree in mathematics opens doors to numerous career paths across various industries. Our program equips students with analytical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and problem-solving skills—qualities highly valued in today's job market. Graduates can pursue careers in:
• Data Science and Analytics: Analysing data to help businesses make informed decisions.
• Finance and Investment: Working in fields like banking, investment analysis, and actuarial science.
• Software Development: Utilizing programming and logical skills in tech companies.
• Education and Research: Teaching or conducting research in mathematical sciences.
• Operations Research: Solving complex operational challenges in industries like logistics and manufacturing.
These opportunities highlight the versatility and relevance of mathematics, preparing students for rewarding roles in a rapidly evolving job market.

Mathematics continues to be a foundational science that helps us understand complex ideas and solve real-world problems. We aim to nurture critical thinking and logical reasoning, enabling students to adapt to the dynamic world. In line with our vision, we offer experiential learning through laboratory work and project-based assignments, preparing our students for a range of careers, particularly in data science, finance, and technology.

MAKING MATHEMATICS ENGAGING AND RELEVANT
We understand that not all students initially find mathematics engaging. In response, our department strives to make the subject accessible and enjoyable, employing innovative teaching techniques and real-world applications to spark curiosity and interest. Through interactive learning sessions, problem-solving workshops, and a supportive classroom environment, we encourage students to see mathematics as a powerful tool that extends beyond theoretical knowledge, making it both fun and applicable to everyday life.

We have two modern labs equipped with 85 computers with internet connectivity, allowing students to develop programming skills in industry-preferred languages such as Python. We align with industry needs, ensuring that our students acquire skills relevant to the contemporary job markets.

Our department conducts an annual field visit to industry-relevant sites, giving students exposure to practical applications of their studies. We also hold inter class and intercollege mathematics-focused activities that foster leadership, teamwork, and ethical growth.
