Vision: To inculcate in the students the skills of computing, critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving so as to apply these attributes in both professional and real life.
Mission: To facilitate learners to become competent users of mathematics and mathematical applications that leads them to be lifelong learners and productive members of their society.
In a span of 59 years, the Department of Mathematics has turned out to be one of the major departments in the college providing quality education and training, in a holistic learning environment created by a highly competent and experienced faculty, nurturing young Mathematicians and grooming them to contribute significantly to society.
At the post-graduate level, the curriculum focuses on providing a solid base on a diverse range of mathematical areas developing technological competency, soft skills and life development. Foss tools like Scilab and Maxima and programming language Python are included as practical papers.
In the two year post graduate programme a comprehensive syllabus (in accordance with NET/UGC-JRF syllabus) add on courses , summer internships , self learning through MOOCS , project work and club activities are some of the key features.
The department periodically reviews the curriculum, oversees and incorporates required and relevant changes. Regular feedback from the stakeholders- Students, Alumni , Industry and Academic experts enhances the quality of an updated syllabus and helps in initiating changes as and when required, to enhance the job readiness of the students.

It gives me immense pride to introduce the Department of Mathematics, which, over the past 59 years, has grown into one of the most distinguished departments in our institution. We are deeply committed to providing quality education and training in a holistic and intellectually stimulating environment. Our dedicated and experienced faculty play a pivotal role in nurturing young mathematicians and shaping them into individuals who can contribute meaningfully to society.
At the postgraduate level, our curriculum is designed to offer a strong foundation across diverse mathematical disciplines, while simultaneously fostering technological proficiency, soft skills, and personal development. We integrate practical training through the use of FOSS tools such as Scilab and Maxima, along with the programming language Python, equipping students with essential hands-on experience.
Our two-year postgraduate programme is comprehensive and forward-thinking. It aligns with the NET/UGC-JRF syllabus and includes a variety of enriching features such as add-on courses, summer internships, MOOC-based self-learning, project work, and vibrant club activities that foster collaboration and creativity.
We take pride in continuously evolving our academic offerings. The department conducts regular curriculum reviews, incorporating timely and relevant updates. Constructive feedback from all stakeholders—students, alumni, industry leaders, and academic experts—plays a crucial role in shaping our programmes. This ensures that our students are well-prepared, not only academically but also in terms of job readiness and adaptability in a dynamic professional world.
As Co-ordinator for M.Sc Mathematics Programme, I look forward to leading this vibrant academic community and continuing our legacy of excellence in mathematical education.
