Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future — Participation in the Climate Skills Regional Workshop
The Department of Biological Sciences was delighted to be invited to the Climate Skills Regional Workshop for Youth, held on 23rd–24th September 2025 at the Bangalore International Centre (BIC), Domlur. Organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in partnership with the British Council and HSBC, the two-day workshop brought together young minds from across the region to engage, learn, and act on pressing climate challenges. Three of our students — Shilpa SS, Dhanushree R.K., and Jasmine S. Ammanagi — represented the department at this immersive programme. The workshop was thoughtfully structured into four modules: Ground, Grow, Discover, and Sustain, each offering hands-on experiences and actionable insights.
First day opened with energizers and reflective sessions that encouraged participants to connect and think critically about their climate journeys. Interactive activities such as The Climate Web of Bengaluru and Group Mapping enabled students to examine local environmental issues through a systems-thinking lens. Afternoon sessions focused on leadership and empathy-building through activities like Walk in Someone Else’s Shoes, Gender Box, and the Problem to Opportunity Tree, helping participants understand social dimensions of sustainability. Day 2 transitioned into solution-oriented exploration. Engaging segments on Climate Resilient Communities, a Research Competition Presentation, and the eye-opening Trash to Treasure session showcased Bengaluru’s waste-recycling innovations. The workshop concluded with modules on youth-led climate action and a guided vision meditation, leaving participants inspired and empowered. We extend our gratitude to TERI and the partnering organizations for this valuable opportunity. Workshops like these strengthen our commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious leaders who are equipped to create meaningful change.
