NSS Report |
The NSS
unit of JNC began this year's activities with a formal inauguration
by Dr. C.G.Laxmipathi, The NSS co- ordinator of Bangalore
University. His speech encouraged
and motivated the girls to contribute their bit for the
improvement of society. The office bearers of this academic
year are Ms. Hazel Lyngdoh (President) and Ms. Pavithra
( Vice President). They have a working committee to assist
them.
Abiding by the motto, 'Not me but you", the NSS volunteers
enthusiastically participated in the activities. The unit
adopted a slum, Jyoti Nivas Nagar, in the neighbourhood
of the college, to foster a meaningful link between community
and campus. The volunteers worked to provide basic literacy
for women and children. This was in keeping with the theme
of NSS for this year-Education and Recreation. The NSS unit
also organized competitions such as essay writing, street
plays, collage, and slogan writing for the
volunteers.
On September 24th, NSS Foundation Day was observed. The
volunteers presented a skit titled, 'Educating the Women',
through which they reiterated the message 'Educate a woman
and you educate a family'. On December 1st, NSS students
participated in the Aids Awareness Programme organized by
Christ College. They presented a skit to sensitize the public
on having a positive attitude towards people with AIDS.
They also organized
games and competitions and provided refreshments for the
children of Jyoti Nivas Nagar slum to commemorate World
Food Day and Children's Day.
