| Objective: |
| To understand the basis of biological diversity and a greater insight into the evolutionary process.
To provide a strong foundation in the concepts of animal structure, function and behaviour.
To provide practical skills and knowledge of applied aspects of zoology which can pave the way for self employment oppurtunities in aquaculture, apiculture, vermiculture etc.
To appreciate the underlying genetic mechanisms by understanding the important concepts in classical,molecular and population genetics.
To provide a strong foundation for a better understanding of current advances in genetics and its practical significance.
To focus on human genetics ,its relevance in human health and diseases.
To enable students to develop a sense of responsibilty to make informed decisions on social and ethical issues that have arisen with the profound discoveries in genetics.

| Department activities: |
The year's activities headed with "Srishti - 2004",an inter-class series of competition held in the week between the 6th and 13th of September 2004.
The department arranged a talk on "Birds and Bird Watching" on 22nd of September 2004.
Many intercollegiate competitions like 'Uttejana-2004 of SSMRV college, enugudu' of NMKRV college and 'Gardenia' of garden city college were enthusiastically participated in and laurels won.
